Devine Lake Park is a 45.5-acre regional park at 1807 Waterfall Avenue, and vehicles enter from Waterfall Avenue in the North Creek subdivision. The lake allows fishing, non-motorized boating and wildlife observation, and the park has trails, a group pavilion and a playscape. Horizon Lake Park, at 444 Horizon Park Blvd., covers 65.7 acres with a stocked fishing lake, a fishing pier, a canoe and kayak launching area and paved walking trails. The city held its grand opening on May 18, 2024.

From Bagdad to Old Town
Leander was established in 1882 after the Austin and Northwestern Railroad bypassed Bagdad, a mile to the west, and its citizens incorporated the town in 1978. Many Bagdad businesses and residents moved to be near the new train station. The Mason Homestead at 1101 S. Bagdad is an 1860s-era restored farmhouse that Christine Mason gave to the city in 2005; before city ownership it was designated a Texas Century Farm. Every first Saturday of December, the city and the Leander Chamber of Commerce host the Old Town Christmas Festival at 100 N. Brushy St., which includes the lighting of Leander's 60-foot Christmas tree.

City permits and the zoning ordinance
Inside Leander city limits, the city says a permit is required before starting any construction, and its examples include remodels with electrical work. Properties outside the city limits but in the Leander ETJ currently need permits only for signs and water/wastewater connections. The city says the list is not comprehensive and asks you to confirm with a city building inspector which permits are needed before work begins; Development Services is at 512-528-2733. For property in the city, the zoning ordinance also says residential outdoor lighting on residential property will be "located so as not to create a nuisance for adjoining property owners." Ask the city which permits apply to your project and who should pull them; anything the city asks you to submit is yours to make.

If your home is in one of the subdivisions listed in the Crystal Falls Home Owner's Association's 2026 dark-sky amendment, read the amendment first, before planning. It governs all exterior lighting, including soffit, eave, fascia and under-roofline lighting, and its Section 5 says "Prior written ACC approval is required for installation, addition, relocation, or replacement of any soffit or eave fixture" and for certain other lighting changes. Any request to the association is yours to submit.
